Prayer Tour Genesis
Origin Story
Below is a brief history of how I came to travel the highways and airways of the United States in prayer.
Largely in October 2023, God began speaking to me about his government.
Is. 9: 6-7
6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the greatness of his government and peace
there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty
will accomplish this.
I drink a powdered shake called Ka'Chava. I've subscribed to this product for over a year. One morning during October 2023, I'm outside on my porch praying when the package is delivered. This time I decide to look up the meaning of Ka'Chava. It comes from the Mayan word for “Earth.” This immediately reminds me of Ps. 2:7-8
7 I will proclaim the Lord’s decree:
He said to me, “You are my son;
today I have become your father.
8 Ask me,
and I will make the nations your inheritance,
the ends of the earth your possession.
9 You will break them with a rod of iron[b];
you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”
On 10/31/23 during morning prayer with one of my prayer partners, it came to me that I needed to pray for the nation. Why? Regardless of who wins the presidential election, there will be 50% of the country who will hate the outcome and 50% will love it. I'm concerned that all hell will literally break loose and overwhelm this republic EXCEPT there is divine intervention.
Hence, enters prayer.
The prospect of praying for the country created a moment of déjà vu. I had a similar experience with this same prayer partner almost three years ago to the day back in 2020. But it was September 2020 - and I felt led to pray for GA. I had two months to travel the entire state and pray at strategic points by the time of the 2020 elections. I finished a few hours before officials formally announced Biden the overall winner.
Fast forward to today and now the idea to pray for the nation is floating in my mind and heart.
Later that day (10/31/23), I sat outside, prepared to ask God what he thinks about this prayer idea, when I get a call from a referral for a retaining wall project. Normally I don't take calls during prayer, but I'd been trying to connect with this person who was a referral for a contractor building a retaining wall at my home. I considered this a sign - but of what?
Meditating on points 1,2 and 3, I landed here: I would travel to each capital city in the US and pray that:
God would establish his Retaining Wall (his government) across the US;
God would raise up his living stones to man the wall
Just thinking about the idea was massive. It was way larger than anything I felt qualified to do. Or that I had a budget to do.
But I remembered David. When it came time for him to fight Goliath, he didn't have the professional military training that Saul's men had (not that that was doing them any good as they stood trembling before Goliath). But he did have previous experience fighting lions and bears to protect his sheep. Those prior experiences prepared him for Goliath.
I believe my experience praying for Georgia has prepared me for this next larger task of praying for the nation.
And as far as the money: God's gonna have to provide or else the Prayer Tour will stop in its tracks.
My goal is to visit the capital city of each state and territory and pray at their respective capitol buildings by November 5, 2024.
To date, I've prayed in 3 cities so far:
Atlanta, GA
Montgomery, AL
Columbia, SC
Visit the Prayer 2024 page each week to read about the latest city visited. 50 states, 5 territories, and 1 national capital! Won't He do it?
With you on the journey,
April
