About the Challenge
The American Heart Association reports that more than 40 percent of African- Americans have high blood pressure. Scientists are not sure why this is, but possible factors include higher rates of diabetes and obesity to a gene that may make African Americans more sensitive to salt.
A new study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association (JAHA) suggests there could be another reason.
High levels of chronic stress.
The study shows that sustained high stress over time can increase the risk of developing hypertension.
What can you do to address the impact of chronic stress in your life?
