Rachel's Threshold
A Bridge to the Divine
At Rachel’s Threshold, our heart’s desire is to walk with clients to get them from point A to point B. Wherever you are in your transition journey, we want to walk with you.
What is the story of Rachel’s Threshold? While we are not Jewish, we do believe in the power and life of the Hebrew scriptures as the word of God. In Jeremiah 31:15, we read the following:
"I hear the screams of anguish, weeping, and wailing in Ramah. Rachel is weeping uncontrollably for her children. And she refuses to be comforted, because they are dead and gone.'
Rachel, the mother of Joseph and Benjamin, is known in Jewish tradition as an Intercessor. She intercedes before God on behalf of others. It is believed that she cried out to God that he would bring her children out of exile and back into their homeland.
An Intercessor is one who bridges the gap between where a person is and where they want to be. We believe that the desired destination is a deeper connection to the Divine.
A threshold is a liminal or transitional space. It represents a season in time or space when you leave what was and enter into what is to be. One practitioner describes it as a move “from God’s old order to God’s new order.”
Employing various expressions of intercession (prayer, music, listening, pictures etc.), we commit to journey with you to the other side.
About Our Founder
April Thomas
April began playing the piano at seven years old. Since then, she’s received a Bachelor of Music and has been awarded numerous composition awards, including the Hubert Weldon Lamb and Arif Mardin Awards. She composed the music for Massacre at Murambi, a documentary about the genocide in Rwanda. The short film aired on PBS and won numerous awards. As a worship leader for 16 years, April has learned to use music to cultivate an environment that sets the stage for divine encounters.
Using prayer and music as her mediums, April moves in the world as an intercessor, one who stands in the gap to bridge humanity to the natural and the Divine. She walks with others through their seasons of transition to help them cross the threshold into their new beginning.
She also seeks to create a sacred community where people can transcend the rules and limitations of institutionalized religion and connect with God by the grace of the Spirit.
This is a new public space for April but one for which she has privately prepared all her life. She’s excited to bring this work into the world and invites you to join her!
TESTIMONIALS
"I was reflecting on yesterday's Awakening Exchange session and on the gift of your song in particular, and want to say thank you. Thank you for sharing your gift and yourself with others. The lyrics, and your very presence, brought so much life and hope and warmth to a topic that can feel intractable."

"Your vulnerability as you performed and your willingness to drop into your emotions as you felt them allowed us all to connect with you and tap into the fabric of that common experience. It allowed us to see ourselves in you."

"I've had the pleasure of knowing April and her music for many months now. Her passion for creating meaningful and inspiring music is truly remarkable and apparent in her performances. Her music and lyrics speak to her desire to make positive changes in the world, and it's inspiring to witness her dedication to this purpose. Her willingness to support causes such as criminal justice reform and the Awakening Exchange is a testament to her generosity and commitment to making a difference. Her music has the power to open hearts, as I've witnessed first-hand. A friend of mine who lives in the prison said after hearing April play, his heart opened, and he was overcome by emotion. April is a true force for good in the world, and I'm blessed to know her."
Steven Matthew Clark, Founder of The Awakening Exchange
"I have never used music in my guided meditations before, but when I heard you playing this song, it felt like slow, subtle waves of warmth, love, and relaxation in the space. I couldn't help but ask you to play it in my guided meditation."
